i3 workshop:
Industry meets the Intelligent Information Interfaces Requirements

20 February 1998
Aula Magna
Via dei Banchi di Sotto 55, Siena

As you may be aware recently the European Commission announced the launch of a small number of long term research projects under the strategic initiative of Intelligent Information Interfaces I3.

As part of this initiative several projects are investigating the broad area of Intelligent Interfaces and their provision on palm top computing devices.

A workshop entitled Industry meets the Intelligent Information Interfaces Requirements is being organised by the combined project consortia of four of these innovative and pioneering projects namely Campiello, Comris, HIPS (Hyper Interaction within Physical Space) and MLounge.

The workshop will be held on the 20th of February 1998 in Siena, Aula Magna, Via dei Banchi di Sotto 55. The purpose of the workshop is to provide a bidirectional communication forum within which the research consortia and the leading industrial providers of hand held computing technologies, and enabling communication infrastructure (DECT, Wireless, GSM) can freely interact.

This information exchange would enable:

  1. the research consortia to gain an understanding of existing technological provision and future plans and products provided by the vendors;
  2. the industrials to gain an understanding of the immediate and anticipated technology needs in order to deliver intelligent palm top systems and products for the 21st century.

We would condially like to invite you to attend and participate in this event. As one of the key players in this market sector we believe you would like to avail of this unique opportunity. The leading European technology and service providers are being invited: Alcatel-Germany, Alcatel-Italia, Apple Computer, Ericsson, Enel, Telecom Italia, Omnitel, Ars Antenna, Philiphs, Siemens, SNI, Nokia, Daimler-Benz, Bertelsmann AG, German Telekom, Italtel, France Telecom, Sony, Psion, Sharp, TelItal, Xerox, Digital, Telecom - Centro Studi San Salvador, Lexon, RAI (Educational), Microsoft, IBM.

Please, confirm if any representative of your company is willing to participate and if he/she is willing to have a short talk in one of the two scheduled forum sessions in which collectively researchers and industrials will present and discuss the technical features of:

Information services and delivery to mobile users: e.g. wireless networks for data trasmission, positioning localization technologies (e.g. infrared sensors, DECT, GSM), PDAs, and their potential applications to information services and delivery to mobile users.

Teleconferencing and web-access through heterogeneous devices: e.g. teleconferencing systems based on heterogeneous devices including cellular phones and PDAs; and the web-access through PDAs. At both these sessions other leading competitors will be represented.

The workshop will be of one day duration and will be highly interactive in nature. It would also be our hope that you might like to take the opportunity of demonstrating some of your products or services.

We would ask that you reply to:
