The HIPS results ALIAS (Adaptive Location aware Information Assistance for nomadic activitieS) are included in the new release of the PROSOMA CD, which was distributed during the IST ‘98 conference.

ALIAS consists of a new interaction paradigm for navigating physical spaces which enriches the "visitor experience". The new paradigm allows people to navigate both a physical space and a related information space at the same time, with a minimal gap between the two: it delivers contextualised and personalised information in the human environment through a multimodal presentation, according to the visitor's movements.

ALIAS is implemented as a telecommunication system which takes advantage of an extensive electronic database with information about a particular place. The user is not restricted to interact with one particular device: he or she can use a mobile palmtop with wireless connection when on tour, or a desktop or laptop in the office or at home.

ALIAS results could be used in museums, show rooms and archeological areas, and are particularly relevant for innovative tourist services.
