The Annual Conference for i3

June 29 - July 1, 1998
"Venue: To be announced"

The purpose of the meeting is to:

  1. Promote and facilitate the exchange of information and experience across all i3 projects.
  2. For Esprit LTR (Long-Term Research) to assess progress of the i3 activity as a whole as well as its constituent parts (projects and network).

Features of the meeting will include:

  • Plenary presentations of individual projects
  • Thematic sessions on issues of scientific interest, including topics like Design practice, Intellectual property, Advances in AR technology...etc.
  • A poster/demo session open throughout the event
  • One-to-one sessions between a "jury" of independent experts and individual projects
  • i3net "prizes" for most promising activities

An overall evaluation team or "jury" would be made up of approximately 6-8 experts and 3 project officers from LTR. Jury members would have specific projects to focus on.

The poster/demo room would contain a contribution from at least each project, but on top of that, a range of contributions would be welcome and encouraged.

Reports would be sent to jury members prior to the meeting. Projects would not be discriminated unfairly because of different starting times. Drafts of annual reports would be sent by those projects which had not yet completed 12 months.

At the one-to one sessions, the assessment and recommendations of the jury would be given to individual projects, followed by a discussion.

The i3net "prizes" would not be monetary, rather they would be "honorary mentions", perhaps celebrated with a bottle of wine or champange. They could be for: the most interesting interface; most eye-catching presentation; most fruitful intra/inter-project collaboration...etc
