The Communication Strategy Task Group (CSTG) started its work by the end of September 1996 and had its plans for a basic communication strategy approved by the members in May 1997.
The CSTG's activities were:
- Establishment of a general communication strategy.
- Stepwise implementation of the strategy.
- Creation of an overview of state-of-the-art communication software.
The CSTG involved the i3net Coordinator (Convenor: Niels Ole Bernsen, MIP, Denmark), LIMSI, France, and LIA, Denmark.

A general communication strategy has been established and is now visible on the i3net pages: A range of web functions, services and information, including a search engine, a members database with appropriate access facilities and information on several i3 relevant issues, such as related projects, relevant organisations and conferences and workshops. A mailing list has been established for the circulation of news, jobs, etc. Emails from this list are available on the web as well. The i3magazine has been launched with the first issue appearing in November 1997. i3magazine will be published on the web as well as on paper.
